[It's raining outside today, but for once Nonon doesn't seem to mind; she's still in the utter sinkhole that is Violet City, but for the time being, her morale is good. Her money ran out quite some time ago, and she'd been okay with sleeping outside (it was going to take more than that to get her down properly) until that freak snowstorm last week felt the need to hit; seeing as she'd never worked a day in her life (not a proper job, not something that wasn't school and training) the idea of doing that was something almost completely foreign to her, but eventually she'd caved and applied somewhere and gotten hired.

And in the time since, she's discovered the surprisingly unsarcastic utter joy in the equation that is "make muffins = get money."

Sure, she's probably never going to get the flour out of her hair again and half the time she somehow ends up with glaze on her face, but she's found a bakery and they were hiring and she's stronger than she looks, and there's something really satisfying about being able to do things with her hands and see the results, and generally she's doing really well. Singing a bit while she does it, even, and making use of her Ambipom's entirely too many hands to hold trays for her while she works.

Life is actually surprisingly good today.]

This place is actually pretty mundane, for somewhere that has a bunch of magical fire-spitting animals at their disposal. It took a lot of considering it, but I don't think I can really complain about that, though. It's sort of nice to know that even in a place that has something like that, people aren't using them to burn each other's faces off.

(Usually, anyway, I've heard there are a few whackjobs that do that.)

How many of you are from somewhere like this? Where there's not much going on, I mean, and you can just kind of exist.

And if you're from somewhere that's not like this and there's stuff going on all the time, what's it like for you to be living here now? Is it boring for you, or is it sort of a relief?

I have to make up for the depressing topic of conversation somehow. That's not the sort of thing you just unload on someone, so allow me to apologize for that.

Well, I did ask about everybody's worlds and all. If yours is full of war, it's full of war.

[glaciates]

[HAHAHAHAHA YOU HAVE NO IDEA, SISTER]

Aside from the war it's an alright place, just a bit backwards in terms of technology.

[fatalissimo]

More backwards than here? I know a guy who would throw a fit over the technology here because it's not up to his specs.

[glaciates]

The technology here is far more advanced than what we have. We don't have anything like this device back home - the closest thing we have are phones and they're not the portable kind.

[fatalissimo]

So this stuff is pretty much straight-out science fiction to you, then.

[glaciates]

Yeah. Getting adjusted to it all took a long time. Now it's kind of hard to imagine what life would be like without it.

[fatalissimo]

Technology's like that. New stuff comes out and you think you won't possibly need it or use it, and then you get hooked on it eventually.

Just don't become like that guy I know and you'll be fine. He's kind of a basement-dweller.

[glaciates]

["Basement-dweller"? That's a... strange way to describe someone.]

So he's someone who's obsessed with new technology, then?

[fatalissimo]

Well, he's always got his face buried in it, so it's something like that.

It's what he does, though, in my school - he's in charge of all the technological stuff. So I guess I can't blame him for doing what he's there for, and he's good at it, if a bit of a showoff.

[glaciates]

So he specializes in technology and the technology you have back home is even more advanced than this? I can't even imagine what it's like.

This guy though, he's someone you're friends with?

[fatalissimo]

[She hesitates for a moment; okay, they're definitely not friends - she's not friends with the rest of the Elite Four and she doesn't even like them all that much, they're just a bunch of people that she trusts with her life and would gladly die for if she had to.

...how do you...describe...that...]

Yeah, I'm not sure how his brain hasn't just started oozing out his ears from the information overload.

He's not my friend, though.

[glaciates]

Honestly I'd be surprised if he can still see after dealing with all those screens.

Do you two work together then?

[fatalissimo]

That's it, yep. We're both on the Student Council, so we have to work together a lot.

[glaciates]

Well at least he seems competent at what he does. That's the most important thing, right?

[fatalissimo]

I think so.

Don't let him hear you say anything like that, though, it'll go right to his head.

[glaciates]

Oh, so he's egotistical as well? I'm sure that's fun to deal with.

[fatalissimo]

Egotistical as hell, I am telling you.

[glaciates]

I've been living with a few people like that. It's always interesting, at least.

[fatalissimo]

Oh really? What people are these, friends of yours?

[glaciates]

Sort of. One of them's a friend, the other is... [Archer.] my friend's friend. We don't get along very well.

[fatalissimo]

Why do you live with them, then? Just because it's cheaper that way?

[glaciates]

Yeah. It's better than being alone.

[fatalissimo]

Did you know them from home?

[glaciates]

My friend, yeah. The other guy is someone my friend met here.
